A great start to the season for Meltons 3rds under new captain James Marman.

Melton fielded a strong side for their first game of the season with many players returning from the the last few seasons, Gary Whitechurch returning to Melton after a few years working away and Josh Pacey and Rob Thomason having their first game for the club.

It didnt take long for Melton to start attacking Aylestone's try line and were camped for long periods in their 22 for many phases. Patience and hard work were rewarded when Stu Bowles received the ball and crashed over for the first try.

Melton dominated the scrum which provided a solid platform for Whitechurch to orchestrate a number of moves during the first half, allowing them to be 17 - 0 at half time.

The second half started well for Melton, receiving the kick from Aylestone and immediately passing it out through many skillful hands wide out to the wing to score.

Aylestone rallied in the second half and managed to break through Melton' defense on a number of occasions only to be thwarted by some brilliant cover tackling from Eric Dickinson Crowe senior (Neil) and Crowe junior (Sean).

Special mention must go to Captain James Marman leading from the front after ripping the ball from the maul and sprinting 60 yards (yes, sprinting 60 yards) before turning and setting the ball up for the marauding Melton forwards

Aylestone's hardwork and commitment was finally rewarded with a break through Melton's defensive line resulting in a well deserved try.

Melton continued to dominate with some silky running and acceleration from Crowe junior, sheer determination from Dickinson and great footwork from Whitechurch all resulting in tries.

A final mention to Jamie Swann for running in 3 tries - a great performance all round from Melton.

Next weekend sees them play away at Market Bosworth
