Oakham RFC
Melton Mowbray RFC

Wednesday 22nd February saw our Under 17's team take on local team Oakham U17's in the Quarter Final of the County FloodLit Cup.

Melton were down on numbers, due to players being unavailable due to school duties and only able to field a squad of 16 players compared to the 22 man squad of Oakham.

Melton arrived with a plan and they stuck to it under the guidance of Wayne Greaves, Paul Moore and Jonny Miller. Quick rucked ball moved fast, take it up and recycle it.

We were first on the score board with a try from Keightley 0 -5.

Oakham were straight back with a converted try 7 - 5.

Half-Time score was 12 - 5.

A strong teamtalk at half-time and the wind behind us Melton pinned Oakham in their own half and the pressure paid off with some cracking driven line-outs gaining ground and resulting in getting the next score on the board from Griffiths 12 - 10.

Oakham were then to lose 2 players to yellow cards, Melton gained 3 points from Miller 12 - 15.

Melton's final try came from a newer player, Reek, 12 - 20.

Oakham dd not give up easily and came back with some strong runs from their players, unfortunately losing the ball in a tackle and our lads kicking the ball into touch to hear the sound of the final whistle.

This was truly a fantastic and well contested match between two rival clubs.

The semi-final now sees our U17's taking on Syston in what promises to be another great game.
